Promaster Hack- Rain Gutter

Promaster Hack- Rain Gutter

One thing I quickly noticed about living in the PNW is that moisture management is more crucial than ever.  In the drier climes that I had previously inhabited, things aired out quickly, moisture evaporated, and there wasn't too much to worry about when it came to a bit of water getting in the van via some wet gear or a soggy dog.  Since buying the Promaster, we've spent the majority of our time in Southeast Alaska or in Washington, both quite wet.  It's been very important to find ways to keep the van as dry as possible and to dry it out effectively when it does get wet.

A problem that I noticed right from the beginning of getting the new van is that there is no rain gutter on top of the doorway, and as such if the sliding door was even cracked a hair, rain would start pouring in the door and into the van.  The new Sprinters might also have this problem, I haven't heard, but I know the old ones didn't because they have a very effective rain gutter which doubles as a sweet crimp rail.  After pondering solutions we found one that is extremely quick, ridiculously cheap, and more than sufficient.  Here's what to do:

1. Find a plastic corner protector at your local hardware store.

2. Cut to a length that is longer than the opening in your sliding door.

3. Secure above your doorway at a slight angle.

4. Enjoy opening your door without inviting in a deluge of water.

Here's a quick video that shows the rain gutter in action!
